THINGS TO NOTE
Kerala also known as Keralam is a state located in the south-west region of India on the Malabar coast. It was formed on 1 November 1956 per the States Reorganisation Act by combining various Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi) with a population of 33,387,677, it is bordered by Karnataka to the north and north east, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Laccadive Sea to the west. Thiruvananthapuram is the state capital among the 14 districts; other major cities include Thrissur,Kochi and Kozhikode..

KOVALAM

Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India, located around 16 km from the city center. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. It is also known as the paradise of the south.
Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach

Lighthouse Beach

The southernmost beach, the Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists, Lighthouse Beach got its name due to the old Vizhinjam Lighthouse located on a rocky promontory here. Its intermittent beams at night render the beach with an unearthly charm. See some images of Kovalam here.

Hawah Beach

Eve’s Beach, more commonly known as Hawa Beach, ranks second, in the early day, is a beehive of activities with fishermen setting out for sea. With a high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights.

Samudra Beach

A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn't have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part.

VARKALA

Varkala is a coastal town and municipality in Thiruvananthapuram district situated in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the suburban town of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum city). It is located 50 kilometres (approx. 32 miles) north-west of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and 37 km south-west of Kollam city. Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. These tertiary sedimentary formation cliffs are a unique geological feature on the otherwise flat Kerala coast, and is known among geologists as Varkala Formation and a geological monument as declared by the Geological Survey of India. There are numerous water spouts and spas on the sides of these cliffs.

MARARIKULAM

Mararikulam is an attractive beach area just over an hour south of Cochin and within easy reach of the backwaters. It is well placed for visitors flying in or out of Cochin Airport (approximately 2 hours). Mararikulam is a quiet fishing village and not a tourist resort. As this area is not a ‘major tourist destination’ visitors should be aware that the beaches are also used by the local fishermen. This means that the beaches may not be clean although the hotels and resorts will try to ensure that the section of beach adjacent to their property is kept as clean as possible

COCHIN (KOCHI)

The city of Cochin comprises three main areas - historic Fort Cochin (where many of the places of tourist interest are located), busy Ernakulam (with its large range of shops and restaurants) and the more industrial Willingdon Island sandwiched between them. All three parts are connected by road bridges as well as water taxis, so travel around the city is not difficult. You may like to visit the excellent modern shops in Ernakulam or sample one of the many hotels and restaurants there. The Government Shop, where prices for crafts and souvenirs are fixed and fair, is called Kairali. For clothes and fabrics we recommend Jayalakshmi. Other department stores along the main MG Road include Chennai Silks and Parthas. Almost opposite Jayalakshmi (a few doors along from The Grand Hotel – which is good for lunch) is the Himalaya Herbals shop selling excellent body products such as soaps, shampoos and creams. For shoes that are suitable for the British climate as well as men’s clothes try Woodland (which is linked to Timberland). For antiques as well as gifts there are many shops in the Jew Town area.

Fort Kochi is a region in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. This is part of a handful of water-bound regions toward the south-west of the mainland Kochi, and collectively known as Old Kochi or West Kochi. Adjacent to this is Mattancherry. In 1967, these three municipalities, along with a few adjoining areas, were amalgamated to form the Corporation of Cochin.

NATTIKA

Nattika is a small village in Thrissur district of Kerala state, south India. It is centrally located about 25 km from Thrissur, Kodungallur and Guruvayur. There is a beautiful beach in this village called Nattika Beach. Nattika is on the west coast of Thrissur. This is an assembly constituency.
